We are planning a Network Cocktail Party on Thursday evening immediately after our educational sessions. We are inviting style/glamour vendors from the downtown Allentown area to set up displays during the cocktail hour which includes shopping, raffles, and prizes. Early Bird Registration is through March 31st, register today. We are continuing to grow our Chapter by actively recruiting new members. Cindy Fisher, CMM, HITCM-PP, our Chapter Membership Director has been instrumental in helping new members sign up to enjoy the benefits of a PAHCOM membership at the local level as well as at the national level. All members may apply for a scholarship to attend the National Conference in October as well as prepare for either of the exams; Certified Medical Manager (CMM) or Health Information Technology Certified Manager for Physician Practice program (HITCM-PP). 02/28/2018 - Harassment In The Workplace
The Lehigh Valley chapter started out our year with a hot topic, Harassment in the Workplace. When we think of harassment we typically think of sexual harassment, George Hlavac, Esq, Norris, McLaughlin, and Marcus showed members and Penn State students the big picture when considering our obligations of all types of harassment. One of the items that we would assume would be the simplest to implement would be common sense and lead by example. However, if the media has shown us anything we know that common sense is lacking in several individuals who are in position of power. The #metoo movement is a wake-up call to all of us in leadership positions to pay attention to what is happening in our offices. Attorney Hlavac shared several ways that we should be protecting our employees from inside and outside (customers, family members) unwelcome situations. Training/education are top on the list, next implement and follow policy, provide a safe way for staff to file a complaint, make sure no individual is retaliated against if they file a complaint, and follow-up on the complaint. Cindy Fisher, CMM, HITCM-PP, Membership Director welcomed several new members to our chapter meeting. It is exciting to watch our chapter grow with the gift program, and we look forward to future opportunities with our members through CMM and HITCM-PP certifications. Cindy also holds the position of conference chairperson and gave us an update on Spring Inspiration (April 12 - 13, 2018). This is going to be a "Grand Event" to be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Allentown, make sure you go to our website for details and registration ( Steph Hanzl, RN, CCRP, CMM - Vice President reviewed our scholarship opportunity to attend National PAHCOM conference to be held in Clearwater, FL, in October. We had a good representation of chapter members and Penn State students at the meeting. The Lehigh Valley PAHCOM chapter and Penn State Lehigh Valley HPA program have an on-going collaboration in education, mentoring, and internships for the students. I'm proud of our chapter members and their dedication to sharing knowledge with these students. On behalf of the officers and myself, let me say we are here to serve our chapter members, we invite input and dialogue on topics and interests you would like to see presented at future meetings. We look forward to another excellent year in our chapter and with PAHCOM. Respectfully submitted, Suzette Benedick, MBA, CHC, CMM, HITCM-PP - President
